Un prophète

Un prophète is an exceptionally, extraordinarily good movie, reminiscent of the best of the pre-Code prison movies starring the likes of James Cagney. Tahar Rahim is astounding. All of the acting is superb. Audiard’s directing is superb. The only thing that isn’t beyond fantastic is the music under the final credits (yes, I watch the final credits): one Jimmie Dale Gilmore, a tenor with a fruity voice and fast vibrato, was hired to sing “Mack the Knife”. In English. Huge misjudgment, so don’t watch the final credits if you don’t want the mood broken.
