Kiss Me Deadly [1955]

Kiss Me Deadly

DIRECTOR: Robert Aldrich | WRITER: A. I. Bezzerides | CAST: Ralph Meeker, Albert Dekker, Paul Stewart, Juano Hernandez, Wesley Addy, Marian Carr, Marjorie Bennett, Mort Marshall, Fortunio Bonanova, Strother Martin, Chloris Leachman | USA

What makes Kiss Me Deadly so fascinating, beyond the fact that there really isn’t a sympathetic character in sight, is how brash Robert Aldrich is with the plot mechanics: every seam, every stitch is visible yet it all hangs together beautifully. Adored the location work, especially Bunker Hill and they actually showed the right block of Wilshire that corresponds to Mike Hammer’s address! Too bad about the Malibu beach “cottage”. And I ask you: who wouldn’t “date” a creep if Ralph Meeker asked you to?
